Why the hell did Babcock go to Telluride? Mar 17, 2013 0:27:49 GMT -5

It doesn't make any sense to me that Babcock would leave the Haven and go to Telluride. Seems like he had a good thing going at the Haven. I first thought he might have been driven out/enraged at the disruption of the sacrifice but then remembered there had been a prior attempt to kill him and he didn't leave then so there would be no reason to leave after this attempt. It wasn't because they "always go home" because it was well established throughout the book that that meant their home before becoming infected, not the site where they were infected. There is no reason for him to be drawn to the lab where he was infected. Also, if this were the case, all of the twelve would be there, not just him. Another possibility is that when he saw Amy in person he realized what a threat she was and followed her there, although if she was such a threat why he didn't just kill her at the sacrifice is another puzzler. The problem with this is that if he wanted to catch her he would have to: one, be able to sense her presence enough to be able to track her. Which he seems to be able to do. And two, be able to catch her. Which also seems to be easily within his powers. His "many" were able to keep up to and even overtake the train they were escaping from the Haven in. Even if they were outdistanced by the train the virals should have been able to easily catch up to them when they were on foot. Apparently, they are able to carry hostages (Theo, and apparently others) 400ish miles from the colony to the Haven before they die from starvation/dehydration/exposure and before the regain consciousness from the shock of their capture. This seems to eliminate that possibility. Another possibility, and I think the only one that seems to fit (sort of) is that Lacey was able to call Babcock to the lab. The catch is, if she is able to compel Babcock to rush headlong to his death, why not call the other 11 (or 12, if you count Fanning [zero]) too and kill them all? And if she can only call Babcock, why? He wasn't the one to infect her so there is no reason for them to have any kind of special connection.
