Was it Babcock talking to Amy in Chapter 23?

This is from back in chapter 23. Amy asks:

-Where are they? she asked the darkness. Where are the men on their horses that I should go to them and find them? For I have been alone through all the years and years, no I but I.
And a new voice came to her from the night sky, saying, Go into the moonlight, Amy.
—Where? Where should I go?
Bring them to me. The way will show you the way.
She would. She would do it. For she had been alone too long, no I but I, and she was filled then with a sorrow and a great desire for others of her kind, that she should be alone no longer.
Go into the moonlight and find the men that I should know them as I know you, Amy.
—Amy, she thought. Who is Amy?
And the voice said, You are

So who is that voice? The "Bring them to me" is the same message Babcock sends, but it doesn't sound right that Babcock is controlling her there, since he's kind of scared of her later.

Is the voice Fanning, Zero? That makes more sense to me, but it's still strange that she listens to him, unless she doesn't realize how he wants to "know" them.

May the road gangs never meet you. May the wind be fallout-free. May the sun shine through the ashes, hot rain not fall on thee. And until we meet again, may no one hold your flesh in the palm of their hand.

I go back and forth between thinking it's Babcock and Fanning. Speaking of Fanning, it seems that as the book goes on, Fanning takes a backseat to Babcock. I think he'll become more important, maybe much harder to control by any means than Babcock.

It's weird though that Cronin seems to put so little emphasis on him in the later parts of the book.

I Twittered Cronin about what led Lacey to the Chalet and he replied with a substantive answer right away. (She's an authentic mystic, he said.)

But I also sent this question, and he hasn't replied. Maybe that means we're not supposed to know yet.

And yeah, I'm going to put up a post soon about what we know about Fanning. I think you're right that he's over and above the 12. I guess he'll be the final one, the big boss they need to defeat in the third book.

It was Fanning (Zero) who was talking to her I think.

So whether it was Fanning or Babcock, they're both bad guys. So is Amy duped by them? I mean we're told she's the girl who saves the world, but at this point she's doing the work of her enemies.

Like I posted in another thread, it seems that simply by arriving at the Colony, she caused some of the dreams/visions that led to the Night of Blades and Stars.

So for now at least she doesn't seem very heroic and in fact is the cause of a lot of deaths.

I don't think Amy is duped by them. It seems that at least a few of the Colony members if not more, had strange dreams before she got there, even at least one of the kids in the Sanctuary.

I think her presence escalates the dreaming and makes people do things they might not do without her being there.

Also (besides that initail kill) there is no evidence Carter is bad. It could be him perhaps. He might use back channels (i.e. a nun) to meet this end. Give him a chance.

It was lacey talking to amy. lacey was telling her "the way will show you the way," just like lacey herself had been told by the voice of god, when she was a small child. nobody else realized that?

Huh, I think you're right.

The earlier passage reads:

And then one day she was climbing a long mountain road, the glory of God in the sunshine all around her, and knew that she’d arrived.
Wait, the voice said. Wait for sunset, Sister Lacey. The way will show you the way.

And so it did: the way showed the way. More men were pursuing her now; each footfall, each snap of a twig, each breath was as a gunshot, louder than loud, telling Lacey where they were. They were spread out behind her in a wide line, six of them, pointing their guns into the darkness, at nothing, at a place where Lacey had stood but stood no longer.

I'm going to have to consider the ramifications of that.
