Just put this up as a blog post.
I haven't read it yet, but everything I've heard about the comic book series Y: The Last Man suggests that I should get to it sooner rather than later. Written by Brian K. Vaughan and Pia Guerra, the series ran for 60 issues and tells the story of Yorick Brown, the last remaining human male after a mysterious plague kills evertyhing with a Y chromosome except for Yorick and his monkey companion, Ampersand.
The series was highly lauded, and while there are movie deals in place, none have succeeded in bringing the story of Yorick and a planet-full of women to video. So a group of super fans of the comic decided to get together and and make Y: The Last Man Rising, a 21-minute short film that highlights some of the key early events of the storyline.
Yes, it's still an unofficial fan film, but don't let that stop you from watching; it has the look and feel of a professional production, and definitely left me hoping that they find a way to continue the story.
You can check it out yourself right here.

Thanks, I will watch this later. The comics start off very well but I did find the last few volumes a bit awful - as soon as they tried to come up with an explanation for what was happening the quality went really downhill, but it is still worth reading as it is such an interesting PA world.

Yeah, someone else told me they didn't like the second half of the series either. It's only 60 issues though so I might still give it a try.

It is definitely still worth a try because the first half makes up for the weak ending, but if there is ever a Hollywood adaptation it is a rare example of someting I would like them to change.

The fan film had much better production values than I expected. Good on them. But I'm wondering what the payoff is on the making of a film like this?
