Within hours of succumbing to a plague, millions of dead rise to attack the living.

Brian Williams flees the city with his sister Sarah, literally just ahead of the undead horde. Their post-apocalyptic journey begins with refuge in the mountains, then takes them across a destroyed nation. Although banded with other survivors, the group remains desperately outnumbered and under-armed. With no food and little fuel, they must fight their way to safety.

RISE is the story of the extreme measures a family will take to survive a trek across a country gone mad.

The year is 2075, and the vast majority of humanity is dead.

The global outbreak of a new strain of virus wiped out over 99% of the population. The lone hope rests on the slim, unready shoulders of Dr. Justin Kaes and a small team of specialists from the Center for Disease Control. The researchers have discovered a cure for the plague in the blood of a cantankerous 102 year old. But there’s one minor problem: the old man couldn’t care less whether humanity lives or dies. And he most certainly doesn’t feel like going on a road trip to sunny California.

On the way to the coast lie murderous tribes, cults, voracious animals, and the toxic remains of civilization. They face a world gone backwards, technology and industry reduced to rusting garbage. Their mission seems doomed… But there are a few decent souls still out there, citizens of Plaguesville, USA.

“Imagine FALLOUT mixed with DOOMSDAY and MAD MAX but with the violence, intrigue, and horror on overdrive; boil it down and you have the best apocalyptic novel ever.” --Eloise J. Knapp, author of The Undead Situation

Anchorage, Alaska: gateway to serene wilderness of The Last Frontier. No stranger to struggle, the city on the edge of the world is about to become even more isolated.

When a plague strikes, Anchorage becomes a deadly trap for its citizens. The only two land routes out of the city are cut, forcing people to fight or die as the infection spreads.

Danny and Jules, just children, witness the beginning stages of the pestilence. Neil watches helplessly from his office cubicle as Midtown is ravaged. Dr. Caldwell attempts to flee the madness of Providence Hospital, the epicenter of the outbreak. The lives and survival of these few become intertwined in the aftermath of the onslaught. Coming together as strangers, they begin to form stronger bonds--even as hope slips away and they realize there may be no rescue coming.

“A fast-moving novel about a horrific disaster...”--49 Writers

I started reading Plaguesville USA. I'm not sure it's the "best post-apocalyptic novel ever" so far, but it's keeping my attention for now.

May the road gangs never meet you. May the wind be fallout-free. May the sun shine through the ashes, hot rain not fall on thee. And until we meet again, may no one hold your flesh in the palm of their hand.

That'll be my next Permuted choice Megaton. I'm pretty much over zombies for the moment.
