Well i finished The Jakarta Pandemic. There were some small niggling bits that frustrated me, like the wife. While it's no award winner, it was still a solid and extremely gripping story that had me hooked from beginning to end.

Highly recommended read for it's current price tag of $0 as an ebook on Amazon.

I'm about a third through it right now. I'm reading the paperback version rather than the ebook. I like the story quite a bit but the writing is really throwing me off. Very descriptive when it really doesn't need to be (why do I need to know the color of the curtains, the finish on the end table, etc). Also quite a few places where the verb tense changes, which is jarring to me.
Have you read The Birth of the Peacekeepers? It's WAY worse with that sort of stuff, it read's like something you would find in a kids library with a few naughty words and scenes tossed in. Jakarta Pandemic reads WAY better than it.

I just picked up 'American Apocalypse Wastelands' at the supermarket. Looks like it might be okay - anyone read this yet? I'm thinking after dinner I may turn off the idiot tube and crack it.

That's actually the second book in a trilogy that started out as an online serial and was later published in book form, and then further revised. Hopefully it's received a good editing recently.

Here's my review of book one, http://www.megaton.us/megaton/2010/2/27/american-apocalypse-the-beginning.html

I'll need to pick up book one - I was wondering if it was a trilogy, since it seemed to take up in the middle of a story. It seems well-written, especially since it's in first person, which is difficult to write in. It's fairly realistic, and I like the characters. Not bad at all - I'm about 1/2 way through it. Haven't read the first one, but this is not bad. Not Tolstoy, but I didn't expect that.

I've read through a couple of books since my last post. I read a small kindle story called Hunger and Thirst by Wayne Wightman (http://www.amazon.com/Hunger-and-Thirst-....26763277&sr=1-1). This was quite an enjoyable, though relatively cryptic tale, of a man saved by a mysterious young woman in a Post Apocalyptic Nevada desert.

After that I tried reading Crash by J.G. Ballard. While I respect Ballard's amazingly descriptive and excruciatingly intelligent writing, I also happen to find it a real burden as well. If you are into extremely morbid writing along the lines of Matthew Stokoe, Clive Barker or Dennis Cooper, then you will really get a kick out of this exceedingly violent pornographic oddity.

I gave up on Crash and have now picked up Winds of Change by Jason brannon (http://permutedpress.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=97). This is best described as an apocalyptic book of biblical proportions. So far a nice and easy read, which is great for screaming through.

I've just finished Ex-Patriots by Peter Clines. It wasn't as good as the first I felt, but still a damn fine book that I would also LOVE to see transferred to the big screen.

I've been trying to read The Hole by Aaron Ross Powell. While it's not a bad book, I am finding it very hard to get into. Ahh well, a friend of my wife has loaned me a pile of steampunk novels, I may just try those.

I'm reading Dangerous Visions, which actually has a couple of pretty decent PA stories in it.

Finished Veniss Underground by Jeff Vandermeer. It's kind of an apocalyptic tale set in a far future earth that has been destroyed by nuclear war and pollution. Very much akin to J.G. Ballard in style this is a rather warped novel of love and revenge.

I just finished the first 5 parts of the Wool series by Hugh Howey. It's really good.

So are you going to do the rest? I still need to read the Dark Tower series myself.

If I can, although if it gets anymore confusing I may let it all just be a mystery to me. :D

Just started to read " World Made By Hand".
Any good?
For those who have not read "Level7" yet....don't bother! It stinks! At least I thought so!

I'll have to Grab that Wool Series for reading on the 26 hour flight to The US (followed by the 26 hour return) in May Megaton! I read Steve Vernon's Long Horn, Big Shaggy which was just plain screwy! If Joe R. Lansdale, Louis L'Amour, George Romero and H.P. Lovecraft got together to make a book, this would be their creation!

I'm now reading The Old Man and The Wasteland by Nick Cole, which is utterly brilliant!

It's a shame you didn't like Level 7 summerrain. It is one of my favourite novels, though I won't deny it is probably an acquired taste due to it's age and style.

Ya, I hated "Level 7"! Just couldn't get into it. Seemed boring.I finished it though.
I also didn't care for "Wastelands" stories of the Apocalypse. It was cheap! Dumb!
