Did you already friend me? And I think there's a Goodreads friend thread on here somewhere.

I'm nearly finished "The Dead" by Charlie Higson, the second in his YA zombie series. It's a good series, very easy to read and full of dark humour.

I'm also reading

"The World Ends in Hickory Hollow" by Ardath Mayhar, just started
"Burn Down the Sky" by James Jaros, good so far
"Pendulum" by John Christopher, just started
The second Steig Larrson book which I started on holiday in Sweden a few weeks ago and have stalled since I returned - not really my genre

Cillian/anyone - you're welcome to friend me - I have about 500 PA titles listed on my goodreads shelves if you need ideas - theres a link to my home page on the goodreads thread

I've been slack and not read any PA stuff lately. I'm currently finishing off with Ender's Game by Orson Scott Card. Definitely one of the SF greats of last century.

I'm also taking a break from PA and reading Stephen King's 11-22-63. It started good, but I'm about a third through it and it's dragging.

Several people have told me in the last few days that 11-22-63 is King's best book to date. I've not read it yet but will probably get around to it eventually.

I'm currently reading a few different books, as is usually the case. I'm about halfway through ASHFALL by Mike Mullin. Unless it takes a hard right turn into crapville, it will easily make my top 5 reads this year.

Stephen King is the master of dragging stories out far beyond their ideal length. The Tommyknockers was the last modern King novel I read. The book dragged on so much, it took me 12 months to read it.

I'm reading Zone One, and enjoying it. It's a bit whimsical at times. It's hailed as "literary" post-apoc, but consists of piles of compound sentences that fall too often into backstory. (In one case, we hark back to the past in a rather leisurely manner while a character is under attack by zombies!)

Still, it's chock-full of the melancholy that attracts me to PA lit. Good stuff.

Which you started in 1978? Just Kidding! I loved The Stand, and it is in my not only in my favourite King list, but also my favourite book list.

I'm reading Wastelands: Stories of the Apocalypse. It's an anthology of PA stories from established authors. So far not too bad, though not what I would deem as your normal PA style stories.

I just saw Wastelands on another site, and ummed and ahhhed about it for a while before shoving it back on my wishlist. Anthologies are my nemesis!

I've just realised I've no new PA books this week. I'm going to have to find one to buy just so I don't feel like I'm slipping!

There's many out there kat. My problem is trying to find one that fits my concept of PA. Unluckily most of the stories in Wastelands are just set in a post apocalyptic world, but rarely deal with the post apocalypse. George R.R. Martin's effort is a far future PA fantasy story. Which is not my idea of PA.

Have you ever read Greybeard? One of my all time favourites, and the closest thing (for me) to the perfect world gone down the gurgler setting.

I'd like to recommend Jacqueline Druga's Dust (http://www.amazon.com/Dust-ebook/dp/B004....93&sr=1-1-spell), The Flu (http://www.amazon.com/The-Flu-ebook/dp/B....23197000&sr=1-1). The two post-apocalyptic novels have been available for a while, but they've been re-edited to address some problems that reviews mentioned. They're both peopled with memorable, likable characters and they stick with you long after you finish reading.

She's just released Torn (http://www.amazon.com/Torn-ebook/dp/B006EHM3UI/ref=ntt_at_ep_dpt_1) which is also a post-apocalyptic tale. This one concerns polar shift. Again, it has strong characters who fight to keep their families and friends safe, a common theme in Druga's books.

Jackie has about 30 books available for Kindle, most of them post-apocalyptic. She's in the process of having them re-edited.

The Jakarta Syndrome, Lights Out, and One Second After were all mentioned in above posts; I loved each one of these. Good books!
