I just finished World War Z, finally. I took a long break from it because I honestly don't read that much.
But right now, I just finished Doom - Knee Deep in the Dead, and I'm on the next one, Hell on Earth.
Technically it IS post-apoc, but not in the traditional sense. Still a good survival story nonetheless. And of course, great reading for any old-school Doom fans (like myself).

I've just looked at my bookshelves and see that I have about 100 unread PA titles gathering dust. I've decided to do something about that and am currently reading Cloud Atlas by David Mitchell - which is great so far, though not PA yet, 100 pages in, and Kelwin by Neal Barrett Jr which I'm enjoying - I'd describe it as "PA fantasy" set far after the breakdown. Worth a read if you can find a copy.

Cloud Atlas is great. I'm going to re-read it in the next month or two in preparation for the movie in November.

Hey, I'm new here. I'll have to check out some of the titles posted here. I just finished Annie Higgins from Amazon which was very good and begun reading a book called Obliterated from amazon also. Except for some editing problems it seems like it will be good too-- the day to day surviving seems realistic and the story so far is .
I like books that get into the actual survival techniques needed. Work.

Just read WARM BODIES, which was written from the first person point of view of a zombie. Funny and strange and inventive!
Also just finished AMPED, set in a dystopia in which people with brain implants (that bring superhuman powers) are attacked by the rednecks, etc. of the "Pure Human" movement.
As an aside, I met both of these writers at a SFWA reading in Portland. The next event will be held on Monday, October 15 and will be hosted by New York Times bestselling author Seanan McGuire, accompanied by Jay Lake and M.K. Hobson. These events are held at the McMenamins Kennedy School in Portland.

Loved Cloud Atlas, Kelwin was disappointingly mediocre - considering how good his other PA stuff is - "Through Darkest America" and it's sequel.
I'm currently reading "Ill Wind" by Kevin J Anderson featuring a plastic eating microbe apocalypse,Ive read 100 pages but I haven't really gotten into it yet - one of the perils of reading 4-5 books at once I guess.
I'm also reading "Then" by Julie Myerson set in a very bleak PA London. 50 pages in, it's not clear what caused the apocalypse - it would seem that an ice age has descended.

QUARANTINE #1 (The Loners) by Lex Thomas. Very, very good. I'm about halfway through.
Students at a brand new high school become infected with a deadly virus on the first day of school. I guess that's the risk you take when you build a school next to a lab specializing in weaponizing viruses. The plague is almost instantly deadly to adults, though those under 18 have no symptoms. The school is quarantined under a large dome.
The main story picks up about a year later. Most of the students have formed gangs, based on social cliques for the most part -- Varsity, Pretty Ones, Sluts, Geeks, etc. They subsist mainly on air-dropped deliveries of food and supplies, with gangs battling each other for the meager scraps.
If you allow for a rather high suspension of disbelief with regards to the virus itself, the book is quite good so far.
