 Plans for the Apocalypse?
« Thread Started on May 25, 2011, 10:55pm »

This page is for posting and chatting all about your apocalypse ideas. Please post the type of apocalyse (please describe) and your ideas in complete and coherent paragraphs. spelling doesnt matter so much but reading U instead of you on a page is pretty annoying.

Zombie apocalypse: Basic zombies, minor motor skills (cant use tools or work knobs of any kind), they arent very fast and their bodies physical strengths before death determine its abilites as a zombie.

My base plan is to form a small group at the beginning in my area of friends and family since i live in the middle of no where literally the population is very low there for there really shouldnt be very many to fight especially if we are slick enough and only travel on the back roads. After about a weeks time of collecting gas, food, guns and ammo, and making some melee weapons we'd head into town and go to the store "BJ's" (Basically SAMS club for those who dont know what that is) lots of huge isles and pallots and very small doors. It even has a garage to store, maintain, and even upgrade vehicles and make new weapons or even strengthen barricades. Each shelving section is a good 20ft off the grond and with some minor arrangments and building material you could build a small "Village" inside the store without too much worry about them getting to you obviously the walls being the first line of defense and the "village in the air" being the second. With a huge flat roof and access to paint (which i doubt many would loot before we got there mainly because in a rush people arent gonna be thinking about paint) we could write living inside. The reason for having it on the roof isnt to inform survivors in the area because more than likely they will abuse us and what we've strived for. But to inform flyers by that we are there. People who can fly have only a few options of starting that i can think of. 1 its the military checking the area, or 2 they are survivors of some other place looking for more people (could be good or bad). I know 3 mechanics that would kill to trick out a bus (that i have illegal access to aka needs hotwireing) and turn it into a roving death machiene. And ive come up with pretty good barricade designs that use maximum effectivness with minimal supplies. But the simplest thing to do is just move something big in front of it, really the less stress on a barricade the better if there is just a car in the way and not pressed against the door then they wont try and rip the car apart (hopefully since this is entirely speculation) they will just continously try to get around it and without being able to stand right in front of the door they wont be as affective against the barricade.

I like the idea of a zombie apocalypse: I'd move to my retreat and fortify, and head out with small groups of family members to scavenge if at all possible.

For something like a global collapse of economy and technology - well, I've got a survival retreat, i've got resources (not as much as i'd like but you can only work with what you're given right?), and i've got a medium term survival plan but it's the uncertainty of things that stops me from having a long term plan.

Of course if it's possible i'd keep the self sufficiency of the retreat running. I'm positive that most of my family will make it to the retreat because they all live in the area but the big question is what to do a year or two down the track.

The idea of banding everyone that's left together and forming a larger community is an appealing idea and i have a few notions as to how such a community should be run. I suppose I would get some kind of industry going, making sure everyone has a job and ensuring that everyone is cared for. I would probably form some kind of security force but then there's the big question on how to arm them. I suppose time will tell and it will all depend on what actually happens because frankly we're all screwed if there's a nuclear holocaust plunging the planet into a nuclear winter. I'd try to survive any way i can but i'm certain i'd die.

Rick.

At the turn of the 20th century the human race had a chance to really make something of itself. There were two paths our ancestors could have taken and unfortunately for us they took the path most traveled. We're a doomed race and we need something to happen so we can have a fresh start.

The way of life that made my country famous is being wiped out by multiculturalism.

Seems like you got it all planned out gears. I would tend to include as few people as possible, but I guess you have to do different things in different situations.

I think I would go with ricks plan. All you need to do to survive is stay hidden and be self sufficient. That way you don't need a security force and you don't have to risk lives trying to find resources. Planning ahead of time while we still can is key.

As for the nuclear winter and what not, you could hypothetically survive if you had a geothermal generator powering lamps for an indoor garden/small farm, although I guess you would need a lot of money to find a good place and set it all up. If I had the resources that's what I would do. I'm guessing though that most people don't have that kind of money, so we should concentrate on practicality. In that sense gears is on the right track :) you need to do with what you've got!

In the event of a nuclear apocalypse, I'm done for. In any other form of global collapse, however, I would just drive up to Camp Pendleton and hole up there.
