 Do you prep?

So I wanted to know how many of you actually prep? I do now some, but I need a steady income so I can actually start doing more and getting better equipment.

I voted 'Yes' but my answer is more between that and 'Yes but don't have the money'.
I can't go all out for the moment but I am building up a cache of various supplies and a couple of days ago my cousin and I started the hunt for a suitable property.
So it's going the right way, slowly but steadily...

Most people don't have a lot of disposable income. You can prep cheaply by just buying an extra box of bandaids and a bag of rice or beans, maybe a couple cans of whatever is on sale when you go to the supermarket every week.

Mark cans with a sharpie as to what date they were bought, and get in the habit of putting newer stuff BEHIND the older stuff - that way you are using up the older stuff first. never buy the 'newest- coolest' stuff, buy USED.

Don't worry about scratches on firearms - they are like cars - sooner or later, if you actually use it, you are going to scratch it. Get over it. Buy bulk whenever possible. Get a membership to Costco and find yourself a BOL, even if it's just a good place to camp with water and a good defensive position. Buy candles (non-scented dammit - you don't want to give away your position.) Think simple, and cheap. Buy used gear off ebay. I have a total of maybe $35 into my current Loadbearing gear setup for my AR15 and it is tits.

Basically, don't get caught up in the 'I have to have this knife because Bear Gryllis uses one' bullshit. Get what's cheap and effective. That is a whole different sort of cool, and instead of spending $100 (or more) on a cool knife, you can get a decent knife used, for cheap, and buy ammo and food with the balance.

FWIW I had a bunch of food stored, and it helped me through a period of unemployment. I have depleted my stocks of food heavily as a result - something I need to take care of soon, but I still have a lot of pasta, and other things left. Be smart - when you see cornbread packets on sale for $.50 each, grab 10 of them. They'll last about forever, and muffins in the apocalypse would be a very good thing. Some canned butter and cheese is a good investment. Cheap vegetable oil on sale is a great thing to have. Coffee in a sealed container - liquor - all great trade goods because they make people (you included) happy. Buy a bottle of Jack on sale and stick it in the back of the cupboard. If you are a survivor, a real survivor, you have to be smart. Start being smart now. Buy 2 when you buy 1.

King, I haven't sent the LBV yet because I've had zero spare time. I haven't been to Sedona in weeks! I will be going up the week after next however, taking a week off to get some crap done I haven't had time to get to, so I'll dig it out and get it in the mail then. Sorry for the delay, but all I do is work lately.

I prep, but I'm poor. After I finish with jugs of water and milk, I bleach them and refill them with water. They have a general shelf life of six months to a year, so I rotate newest for oldest by dates marked. While the desired use is potable water, this area is notorious for droughts and having a large stock of water in a particularly brutal season will always help save on bills. Other than that, I buy whatever can of vegetables or other non-perishables whenever I go to the grocery store.

At this rate, I'll be able to survive on what I have for a little over six months. This does not take into account bugging out, which would probably shave a few months off of that.
