 What do you jam to?
« Thread Started on Sept 13, 2011, 12:11am »

Music is a big part of my life. I never leave home without my Zune fully charged, and I spend any downtime I have with something playing. Helps me get through the day, good or bad. Some people can say with authority that they have a favorite band or genre, but I could never do that. Go ahead and post what your listening preferences are. Hell, to some people, favorite music is a soundtrack to life.

I'll start. Growing up with a dad who spent most of his younger years watching Sabbath, AC/DC, Led Zeppelin, KISS, and a whole slew of others gave me an extreme bias toward loud, hard rock. Being of working class, freedom loving stock, songs from Skynyrd are my anthems. I also have great respect for the classics like Bach, Handel, and Vivaldi. Before I learned long division, I could sing along to The Sex Pistols and by High School I'd fallen in love with Hardcore Punk. Since then, I've delved into extremes of metal and other ambient music. Here's just a sample of a few more obscure bands I listen to frequently.

The Acacia Strain
Ahab
The Banner
Bathory
Defeater
Heksed
Herder
Om
Slabdragger
Urfaust

This should definitely be stickied.

I listen to a lot of different types of music. S.O.A.D. is a great band.

Being that my formative years were the 1980s, I have an affinity for what is often called "hair metal," bands like Skid Row, Bon Jovi, Motley Crue, and GnR. An older cousin got me into stuff like Pink Floyd, AC/DC, and Kiss. Lately I've been listening to the two Sixx:AM albums quite a bit.

However, I was raised on country music, the good stuff, not the crap that often passes for country these days. Artists like Johnny Cash, Merle Haggard, Waylon, and Willie.

In the car, I tend to listen more to books on CD than music these days.

I grew in up in a very musical world, and I heard a lot of stuff like Thin Lizzy, Creedence, Black Sabbath so that was my pop music as a kid. I'm really eclectic these days, so I could listen to Megadeth one minute, DJ Shadow the next. My iPod is on constant shuffle these days.

(totally off topic- if anyone could recommend a good set of headphones between 20-30 on ebay/amazon, let me know)
