If it involves nuclear war, pandemic, economic collapse, natural disaster, alien invasion, machine revolution, global warming, cosmic rays, zombie apocalypse, astronomical impact, animal revolt, science gone wrong, or any combination of the above, discuss it here.

I blame the writers, not enough of them making great PA books. We need our own Tolkien or Turtledove in the genre.

heed its call
arm yourselves for times to come

Well, um, nobody else caring for that game anymore? It's out since May, after all.
Anyway, I got the First Edition today and started in Ranger mode right away. Maybe that wasn't so smart after all, since it skips all the introduction texts. I thought I'd just read the manual, but I only learnt from the loading screen that you can knock out enemies instead of killing them. Also, I couldn't figure out how I was supposed to throw knives - select them in the weapon menu, press R2 to throw - why doesn't it work? Well, you have to TAP the button. Argh. Plus, the "normal" mode shows you a comparison of the weapons if you find new ones - Ranger mode doesn't. Looks like I gotta read a weapon's manual, too.
Still, I got into it pretty quickly, and I like the stealth. Every time I can, I sneak through the levels undetected. :)

Edit: Oh, and if you didn't notice, they stopped developing it for the Wii U, otherwise I wouldn't have bought it for the PS3. Claimed the CPU was too slow. Well - too slow for what, I wonder? Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 runs nicely in 1080p on that machine, after all. And Metro: Last Light is not ugly, but surely not looking particularily super-pretty either.

One thing I like to add. Some of us (well, at least me) use a dedicated IRC client which we might not be staring at all the time. So, if you join and nobody answers to your "Hi" immediately, don't just sob and leave again. Just highlight someone (i.e. say their nickname) - people with IRC clients usually get notified when they're highlighted.
Of course, that doesn't make sense when someone is away. You should be able to see that pretty easily, though, if someone has "AFK" at the end of his or her nickname ;)

...what do mean? comparison; opinion...

is there anything else? (comics, or in some other media)

I hope there is an extended universe of this SciFi & PA & DysT masterpiece;

or some blueprints, maps of the "City of Domes" the vicinity and the "rest of the world"

I've seen the same thing on other forums and not just PA forums. These things seem to go in cycles, it gets busy for a while and then it quietens down. Sooner or later it does pick up and goes through the whole cycle all over again. You've just caught us on one of the quiet cycles :)

I also think that PA boards that are primarily fiction orientated tend to fall between the Zombie enthusiasts, which is probably now a genre all of its own aand the more hard core survivalists who have their own very well maintained and support little slice of the web.

Those of us who just like to pontificate on the whole range of PA, from the comfort of our metaphorical armchairs, are sadly few and far apart and it is more a niche genre that does not really fit in very well with any of the wider ones. So PA is not really horror or sci-fi, both of which are very popular.

Essentially we aint Zombie enough or interested in the minutiae of surrealism to attract the sort of target audience that you would think we would.

A friend of mine has been playing it and trying to convince me to get it but as I live in Australia I'd have to set up a fake Xbox account (to pretend that I live in the USA). What he told me was that State Of Decay is like a single-player beta for the planned MMO version.
