 Hey Everyone
« Thread Started on May 31, 2012, 1:37pm »

Glad to be here, this community looks pretty small. I like that.

I'm from California, and would LOVE to hear everyone's desired Endall scenario.

Mine's Viral outbreak, if I'm immune, or at least a carrier. Global Thermonuclear War if I'm not immune. Sadly I live in the third highest populated city in California...

Hey QG, I'm with you on the viral outbreak thing. If you make it through the death and misery part of it, then you can look forward to decades of easy living.

Hi Quietgrave, welcome :) I like your Yotsuba&! avatar too :)

The trouble with a viral outbreak is clearing out the bodies, I would want that to all be done for me like in Earth Abides...

You kiddin me? That's the best thing about a viral outbreak! Aside from the extremely high threat of infection and common disease, in like, 40 years the topsoil is gonna be SUPER FERTILE!

Nope, I'm in San Francisco, I just did a rough estimate. Not an exact numbers thing.

Personally, I sincerely hope the "Endall" never comes and all my prepping is for naught.

I rather like regular access to hot running water, the Internet, and Doritos.

Screw hot water, Doritos man.

I'm with you, there. I hope the shit never hits the fan, but in these dark times you can't be so nieve <--(Google won't correct that one for me, properly) to just sit back and be a sheep. I try to get my mom (Now in her later years) to move closer to me and that I'd pay for it, but she'd rather live comfortably for the next few years, than live miserably for the next 20 or so. I understand, which is why I don't push it.

Coming back to my point... It's important to prepare. I mean, let's say you've got a job interview and you think "Oh, lol, fuck it, I've got this in the bag, there's no reason to go to any of these other interviews, so I wont" What if you don't get that job? Now you're screwed, and don't have anything. I think it was you, jimpi, that said something along the lines of "And those are who's bodies we'll be looting when they die".

Sad to think my mom, and a lot of other's whom I care for will be among those bodies...

+1 The older I get, the more I enjoy my creature comforts. We will all reach a point in our lives where bugging out just won't be an option. I find just driving to Sedona (hour and a half) absolutely kills my hip, even though I have no real problem with it normally. It's just getting older. I am thinking about a newer vehicle than my beloved Tacoma - something with soft seats and cruise control. I want to drive across country and see my folks next summer - I can't see doing it in the Toyota unfortunately. I'm going to look into better seats from a 4-runner at the junkyard - maybe that'll help? Anyway, I'm not using a walker yet or anything, but I plan on taking a nice long nap later, LOL.

I know you said you stretch, in another post, but if you do some regular stretches throughout the road trip (I get back aches if I don't, my car is hell on my ass cus my shocks are going) it'll promote better blood flow to your extremities and you'll end up with less of an ache after you get out and start walking around.

But I take interstate trips, I rarely need to stretch on hour to two hour trips... You old fart.

LOL. It'll happen to you too, you young whippersnapper. Two years ago I drove non-stop to the east coast - 36 hours to my friend's house IIRC. Stopped and took catnaps. Doubt I could do that now. Cruise control would make a big difference so my leg isn't in the same damn position. When I sell a book I'll hire a young, good-looking female bodyguard to drive for me. (Well shit, I can dream can't I?)

My end all scenario? Grid goes down for a couple weeks. That's all it would take to send this country into a death spiral. I think Bird flu is another good contender, but until the power goes out, people aren't going to freak.

Ho-ho, I'm with you on the good-lookin bodyguard...

They say even the most frivolous amenities, if taken away, would send the country into an uproar. I think even taking something like the iPhone away from people would make them feel like they were thrown back into the dark ages. Although I don't think people would start an Armageddon... It'd just be really unsafe to walk the streets at night.
