James Gibson has entered the forum!
« Thread Started on Dec 11, 2011, 12:50pm »

Hello folks,

My name is James Gibson and I have just joined this forum. I live in the United Kingdom with my wife Susan Gibson. I work as a full time journalist and I am an active participant in the blogosphere. I've always had a great interest in the apocalypse and survivalism. I've even based one of my blogs on them. Please reply with all your heart-warming welcomes :)

May the road gangs never meet you. May the wind be fallout-free. May the sun shine through the ashes, hot rain not fall on thee. And until we meet again, may no one hold your flesh in the palm of their hand.

I enjoy reading your blog. Not in anyway, shape or form into the pure survivalist stuff but its interesting to read stuff that is not all about guns and bullets when it comes to SHTF.

Welcome aboard, James! Glad to have yet another Brit aboard. Seems there are quite a few of you and your Commonwealth cousins here.

I've always been curious as to how Europeans would eke out an existence considering that. Seems to me like fractal military and police bodies could manifest great amounts of power that way. Not to derail the thread at all.

I think it might be more of a UK dilema because there would be issues in a SHTF senario over weapons (got a fiction project on the back-burner at the moment in which the primarily 'incident' is the issue of people getting their hands unexpectedly on a load of SA80 assualt rifles).

Most farmers have shotguns but in terms of anything else, well its strictly all in Police and Army hands although you might be surprised at just how many of our Police now have access to guns (I live in London and work in the centre and at times you struggle to see a Cop who is not carrying a gun).

I like to think that a lack of easy access to weapons might make people sit down and try and talk to each other rather than just start blowing each other away and I confess to struggling with how negative many of my US chums seem to be towards their fellow human beings but its all cultural I guess.

Thank you for the warm welcome. I hope to have a pleasant stay in postapocalypticforum.

EDIT: In response to the other posts. In the UK we're extremely restricted in terms of who can carry firearms. Getting the appropriate licenses to carry a gun around would be a task not worth doing. Guns in Survivalism would be used to deal with much more direct threats, however I believe the core of survivalism remains with resource management and logistics.
