Guys, firearms are ilegal here !! « Thread Started on Jan 8, 2011, 2:16pm »
Hei Guys I'm Nomad, and I have a serious problem... I live in Romania, Bucharest where most firearms are illegal that means: ~No Assualt rifles, ~No Sub-machine guns, ~No machine guns,
Well....better than other countries where firearms are completely illegal. I'm atleast aloud to use: ~Rifles, ~Handguns, ~riot shields ~knifes ~civil war Gatling guns ~Crossbow
Tell me what you think and share some tips or suggestions.....

Automatic fire only has one purpose, and that's to keep people suppressed in cover. They're never used to mow people down. I don't think western militaries' rifles have an automatic function at all anymore.

You're right to a point, suppressive fire is definitely one of the uses of auto-fire but a burst-fire or full-auto option is still very much part of the assault rifles used by the modern military.
For example, the M16A2 is available in a Safe--Single--3-rd or Safe--Single--Auto setting for the trigger group and the customer specifies which one they want (the US Army uses the Safe--Single--3-rd burst trigger group). A rifle like the British L85 has a two-part system where the safety is a crossbolt type and the fire selector is a separate device that allows for single shot or full-auto. The Steyr AUG also has a crossbolt safety but doesn't use a selector switch, it has a progressive trigger where pulling the trigger a certain distance allows for single shot and pulling it further allows full-auto.
There are other uses such for automatic fire where you are not just hoping to keep the enemy from returning fire (i.e. suppression fire) but you are actively trying to kill or wound them, such as room clearing for example.
As for the lack of magazine fed auto-fire capable weapons in Romania, I wouldn't worry too much about it. You are far better off using a good, reliable single-shot/semi-auto rifle that you can get to own now. If the apocalypse comes, then you can use the rifle you have now to defend yourself from the badguys and then you can take their weapons - sooner or later you'll probably find a Puşcă Automată md 86.

It doesn't make any sense how automatic fire is allowed. The average US infantryman carries 210 rounds of ammuntion. An M16 can clear a 30 round magazine in just under 4 seconds. 210 rounds is 7 clips, 7*4 is 28. In 28 seconds a soldier can completely exaust his ammunition supply, if you don't factor in the time it takes to reload.

Get a bolt action rifle. Also check to see if those laws apply to the .22 and .17 rounds. Here in Cali some laws don't apply to the .22 suck as bullet button with pistol stock. Might look into that. Also your in Romania, you have access to semi-auto and full-autos. They might not be legal but as long as you think you REALLY need them they are there. I would look into what is legal as well, a crossbow might not go as far as a bullet but the bolts are re-usable and they are silent, the drawback being that they are a single shot and you will need upper body strength to pull back the string. Also handguns are great if you have the money, look into them first. They are easy to conceal and are small and lightweight compared to rifles. Knives and axes are another choice? Then get a fucking bowie knife with brass knuckles built into it. Something similar to this. http://www.amazon.com/Bud-K-Hungry-Bowie....4539237&sr=1 -3 Also look into rifles that are considered "historic", you might be able to get around the laws with that. Also clarify it for me, are you able to by semi-automatic rifles? Or is both semi and full auto banned. And are the weapons banned in the city or the country.

Absolutely, but you won't be sitting there just holding down the trigger with the barrel pointed in the general direction of the enemy. In the average firefight you're typically going to be firing in one of three ways depending on the situation, the enemy's tactics, your ammo state and the fire control orders given by your Section/Squad Leader (SL): - 1. short, controlled bursts of no more than 3-5 rounds (with sufficient training this is easily achieved) 2. double-tap - firing one round at the enemy immediately following it up with a rapid second shot, you typically aim a little lower than normal on the first shot (again with sufficient training this is easy to achieve, even more so now with 5.56mm, I learnt on 7.62mm NATO) 3. single, well-aimed shots
If the Section/Squad is firing at a distant target that is unlikely to be hit by single shots, the SL may order the entire group to fire short bursts onto the target. The idea is not so much to get killing shots from individual riflemen (because the distance would be negatively affecting the ability to clearly sight the target), but to put enough rounds downrange that some injuries or deaths are likely to occur. It's basically using the entire Section like it's a machinegun.
There's a few harsh realities about infantry rifles and their affect on a war in the modern day: - 1. Most enemy deaths are not caused by riflemen using their issued weapons, something like 60-70% are caused by explosives and shrapnel. Individual riflemen account for something like 20% and the other 10-20% is from various means such as burning, asphyxiation, crushed by falling debris, being run over and so on 2. Most modern armies work on the principle that you will use up the greater portion of your ammo in just one firefight, then you will stop somewhere safe to get a resupply from your Company supply. After a few more firefights, the Company will be getting it's own resupply from the Battalion or Regiment ammo supply.
