Arrows, Bows, and Crossbows « Thread Started on Jun 15, 2010, 3:31pm »
So is anyone stocking up on arrows? Since ammo can only be used once, and after a certain amount of time goes bad have a bows and some arrows might be the best long run thing to do. I plan on getting some bows, crossbows, and arrows, as well as the tips for these arrows. So, anyone else going to be rethinking what weapons you will have in the apocalypse?
There was a great passage in Earth Abides, where the "last American" explains how the new generations used old coins and pounded them flat into something more useful, arrowheads!

I'm leaning towards grabbing a crossbow as the gun laws here in Australia make owning, firing and maintaining a gun extremely impractical. Crossbows are however, completely legal without licence if your over 18. Which is odd, since Air-soft rifles are illegal.

I saw a cool looking crossbow at Sports Authority for about $250. And I've got an archery range right down the hill from me so a crossbow might be something to look in to. It looks like it would be fun to shoot.

The current Fiberglass bows will be very valuable in a PA scenario. Eventually we'll run out, but if you have a well maintained Fiberglass bow, you can have more power for less effort and be well ahead of others.
However, it's unlikely for people to have armor that can stop arrows in most PA scenarios, so the 130 lbs of draw on the English longbow really loses its necessity.
You can bet I'm going to acquire a bow, and more importantly, keep it well maintained.
The reusable affordance of arrows also makes them more valuable (very long term) as compared to guns.
Crossbows, though, require less skill to learn, so if you need to equip more than just yourself and learn how to use the weapon quickly, please, pick up a crossbow.
