 20.5"chromed .223 Saiga
« Thread Started on Oct 24, 2011, 7:03pm »

So as you can see from the title this is what I am looking to get for Christmas. I am gonna trade in my r710 in to help get me to the $369 + fee's and shit to get the rifle. I just hope that centerfire will let me get it. They have saiga's as unable to sell in California, which I know is crap because I almost got a saiga instead of the r710. Anyone know if they would factor in the rounds, sling, and butstock pad?

This is the one I plan to get.

I like the look and feel
to the rifle and most of all its
effeciancy and the fact that you
can get larger magazines.
Thats something that alot of rifles
lack and the .223 bullets will definitly
serve its purpose.

Why the 20" barrel version King? You only give up 150fps with a 16" barrel, and it's much handier.

BTW, they are $299 at J&G sales & Centerfire Systems right now.

And for only $300! That would be an awesome investment. I wonder how difficult it'd be to find aftermarket US parts.

The 7.62x39 is on sale at centerfire right now, I don't want to buy online so j&g is out. I figured I would get the 20" so I would have a little further range and a little more accuracy.

Just my opinion, but the difference in range/accuracy/effectiveness is negligible. I would go for the 16" myself. In fact, I might. I would consider the 5.45 instead however - ammo is MUCH cheaper, you can get 1000 rounds for $125 or so - you can buy a lot for that kind of money. That's typically about 1/2 what you would pay for decent .223

I may just get a 16" then, not gonna go with the 5.45 as I don't see it being a common caliber.

Truthfully I think you'll like the 16" better. Even DMR weapons are now 18" or in the case of the SEAL teams 'Recce' rifle, a 16" barrel. 20" rifles are still in service, but shorter barrels are just so much handier, and 150 fps is just not worth it in 99% of cases.

Well I guess I will go with the 16", it's cheaper so that is a plus.

All kinds of aftermarket parts, and if you want a 'real' AK they are pretty easy to convert. I understand with the .223 that 5.45 mags can be made to work, and the mag can be modified instead of installing a feed ramp for double stack - although that's pretty easy too. The quality of them is what sells most people - they are made in Russia - they are the real deal for the most part, although the trigger setup is different. There are all kinds of DIY conversion tutorials about Saigas on the Interweb - although they wouldn't help King much because he lives behind the iron curation...

I'm also living in the PRK, and aware of how limited I am with aftermarket customization. Hell, just putting a bayonet lug on that weapon would require me to slap on a bullet button. Not really something I'm up to doing.

I am just gonna have Poohan get me the part's I want for the rifle. I won't put them on the gun, but I'll have them if I need them.

Like I said, apparently with that caliber, you can modify the mags and not the gun - but of course, the mags are likely illegal there too. If the NRA really had any balls they would have sued California for 2nd amendment infringement years ago.

That's not what I have heard, there is supposed to be a magwell conversion to take ak mags.
