It looks good but I kind of wish the trailer was a bit shorter - over 4 minutes! I feel like I have already seen the first episode! The computer going on at the end would have been a great surprise ending for an episode, now I'll be expecting it.
Love the locations, of course - especially the ferris wheel.

I would love to be able to say that it harkens to the EMPs in the Shift trilogy (the series I am just about to release), but to be more precise, the event more closely resembles the phenomenon in SM Stirling’s Change series. I have hopes for this series as it is the first of the power’s out apocalypse. The loss of technology concept allows the series to explores more nuanced themes that viral, zombie and nuclear apocalypses do not delve into.

But like I mentioned in my original post, I'm wary of the whole "click the magic amulet and the computer suddenly works" thing. There's no way there's a solid scientific explanation for that, and so who knows what other crazy things they might try to add into the story.

Thats true Megaton, when you really think the hole thing is full of plot holes already. I still dont understand why no one has a modern gun, or why the uncle is somehow all Eli capable with a sword. Or even how the uncle knows ANYTHING about the father and what he knew. Hopefully it will all be explained when the show happens, but honestly I would rather see Jericho come back then this show.

Hmmm.... I'm not really sure that something produced by JJ Abrams is where you're going to find "solid scientific explanations" used to promote the story line. At times - especially with any PA fiction we all need to suspend our belief systems in order to get it to work.
But as far as the modern guns go I can see that happening. After 15 years no electricity means no way to manufacture bullets. But someone could conceivably make gunpowder and bullets for muzzle loaders.

I too wish they would not have given away so much. But here's a stab at an explanation for some of the things. Modern guns were probably scarce because of the riots that happened after the blackout, leading to lack of modern ammunition. Muskets use gun powder which can be made from raw materials so its more convenient and available.
The little charm that allowed a computer, electricity, a communication line, etc. to work is a pretty large leap but has something with how everything was turned off in the first place, something that uses a yet undiscovered technology. Perhaps someone has invented a machine virus that effects electronics and the transmission of electricity itself. Or the world's electronics and electrical grid are infected with nanites that impede the function. It's all science fiction until someone discovers a way to do it with science.
I look forward to the series. It feels like the way I wanted the game "I am alive" to be. Unfortunately, the game fell short. I guess we'll see if JJ Abrams can pull out another hit. I am a fan myself.
Anyone know of there is a viral campaign going on before the series. It's kind of an norm with Mr. Abrams. If you know of one, post the web site(s).

They are playing new/updated trailers on network tv for this upcoming show. The planned first showtime is Sept 16. It looks interesting. I hope they create intelligent characters.

Yeah, I can't wait. It would have to suck major hard for me not to love it. I just hope enough people watch it that they're able to finish the story before it eventually gets cancelled.

NBC just sent out a tweet saying that the full pilot episode is going to be available online on Tuesday 9/4, a full two weeks before the real premier on the 17th.

Just got finished watching the first episode. Not sure what to make of it so far, however it makes me question the possibility of indefinite power loss on a crippling level even more.

I loved it. Yeah, I'm not sure I'll love whatever the explanation is for why the power went out or how the physics of electricity itself got changed, but at least for now it's great. The visuals are perfect and I can't wait to see the other locations they visit.
I'm way more excited about this than I am for Walking Dead to come back.

I thought the use of muzzleloaders was clever. They would definitely make a comeback in this sort of situation. A lot of forethought was done. JJ Abrams doesn't disappoint. And I do agree Megaton, the visuals are stunning!
