Harry Potter and the Deathly Halllows p1
« Thread Started on Apr 18, 2011, 10:41pm »

you can stop laughing at me now. I swear this is an accepta8le topic for this forum!
I just got done watching this with my son, yes I waited till it came out on dvd. Anyways, it was a dark movie for sure, and way 8etter then I thought it was going to 8e. It had a lot of apocalyptic imagery, desolate landscapes, a8andoned places, in the 8eginning people are moving away. the theme was definitely SHTF-ish. It makes me want to actually read the 8ook ;)
To me it made me realize the author was really using the end times type genre to move the story, how the "Ministry" was corrupted and on the dark side, and how the good are fighting for what they 8elieve in. And then there's the nomadic, hunted, running, searching, deprivation thing while they are looking for whatever it is they are looking for (I've really got to read the 8ook to figure it out or may8e just watch all the other movies). anyways, discuss...

Yeah, book 7 is totally dystopian in a lot of ways. The bad guys have taken over the government and the good guys are basically rebels, on the run, listening to pirate radio broadcasts urging them on.

I'll be the first to admit that the Harry Potter series are among my favorite books of all time. I can't count how many times I've read them (or listened to them; the narrator Jim Dale is an audio genius).

And I plan on watching that exact movie tonight when I get home, and I'll most likely be at a midnight showing in July when part 2 comes out.

Well, it 8ugged me all day not knowing the whole story so I went to the li8rary and got the first two 8ooks and started reading them on my lunch hour. I tell you, it was so hard to put that 8ook 1 down and get 8ack to work. and then I was so enmeshed after work that I went on line and 8pought a kindle so I can load all of them on there and read them all. I hope these first two 8ooks hold me over the 3-7 days it will take for the kindle to get here. imagine a kid doing the pee pee dance...thats me waiting for my kindle, only, while I'm doing that I'm holding a gigantic harry potter hardcover in my hand and reading furiously. I'm in love.

The first book is kind of a kids book, particularly at the end, but the rest get progressively darker as the characters age. Just don't watch any more of the movies until you read the books.

I enjoy the Harry Potter books too, I'm really looking forwards to the next film because the second half of the last book has so much going on and I'm sure the effects teams will do an excellent job of the final battle.

I think the Harry Potter books are really great because on the one hand they are very simple and easy to read, but at the same time they do offer a lot of emotional depth and heart. Just because they are for kids that shouldn't be sniffed it, there's a very good reason why they are so popular.
