I've traded a few emails with the author, but I don't think I've ever asked him if he's ex-military himself. The military aspects of the story struck me as accurate, but I don't really have anything to base that one.

Can anyone current or ex-military chime in on if he got the details right?

May the road gangs never meet you. May the wind be fallout-free. May the sun shine through the ashes, hot rain not fall on thee. And until we meet again, may no one hold your flesh in the palm of their hand.

I have no knowledge of how the actual military actually works, but it all felt real and accurate. actually, towards the end there was so much military jargon I was confused by it. Though here in the part one space, it was just descriptive enough to make sense without overwhelming.

I'm still only fairly sure what a Bradley is but whatever, I got the point enough to see it while reading.

Reading on my nook has helped with the built in Dictionary. I didn't realize they were in a tank for the first 50 pages.
