Nukes aren't what I'm worried about. They're essentially trivial in this day and age. I'm worried about the 2012-2013 solar storm that can throw our magnetic field out of balance, and fry circuits since the energy will be deflected by our magnetic field, but it'll make it go haywire, causing EMP. The reason our satellites aren't dropping out of the skies every time there's a solar flare is due to redundant circuitry that keeps them operating.

Are you sure you'd want to be alive after something like that?

Of course! Cause I'd be the freaking king! Come in, come in, have some fresh food and water and grab a gun!

Convo between myself and my English teacher.

AR15.com 'outdoors' section. Look for the 'Survival Gear' forum. At the top there is a superior BoB thread with pics. It'll take you days to go through it. Also be sure to check out the combo ALICE / MOLLE pack conversion done by member 'Enforcer'. Great discussion, great info.

Good basic info jimpi - I am about to buy a fire piston, which looks like about the simplest way to be able to make a fire under any conditions there is. You're right about having tinder. Carmelized tree sap from trees struck by lightning makes great tinder, and I have a magnesium buckle I keep on my main 3 day pack to take shavings off of. I wish I could find more in a surplus store, I'd buy a box of them. Thanks for the links.

I have never heard of a fire piston before, it seems really simple. I could have one, even watched a thing showing what you need to do to do it.
