So just a random thing, if the apocalypse happens in a lifetime that we are alive in, do you think you will survive it? Not trying to say your training or skills are nothing, but just curious.

I live in Hawaii, on an island 40 miles long with almost a million people on it. No matter what the apocalypse is, I'm pretty much screwed. Also, I've got two young children which limits my bugoutability.
So it's cool to consider, but in real life I'd just hope we all go out together and relatively painless.

I would survive, I plan on getting survival training through the military and getting a piece of land out in the desert. And stockpiling and building a community that will eventually be filled.

It of course depends on the apocalypse scenario - but on average, I don't think I'd have much chance to survive on my own. As a group or small community however, I can see it happening.
There was a TED talk, I forgot by whom, where the speaker said that it's illusory to think you could survive by stockpiling and hope for the best. What are you going to do, fill your basement with hectoliters of water to suffice for a year? Neither is hoping for the government to take care of it. The key to surviving a disaster is to build risk mitigation structures in your community - your neighbors, your block, your street.

I don't trust my neighbors other than the guy next door, he was a marine so he would know some stuff. I still think that it would be best to lone wander it for a while, spreading the word, having tale tale's told of you, that sort of stuff. Then settling down and helping people.

I think the most likely scenario is a economic collapse like the Great Depression. The US has 12 trillion in debt and the Chinese will not keep buying our Treasuries forever...so based on this I believe that the wife and I are well prepared for this scenario. We can grow veges, we are canning them as well for long term storage. I was in the Army so I have some basic weapon training and can fire most rifles with fair accuracy. I can hunt and fish with success. My wife has medical training. We have covered some, not all, major areas. If the zombies rise or an asteroid hits we're screwed, lol!

Sounds like your only trouble would be refugees/marauders finding you. Guess there might be some good in "heading for the hills" in that case.

One of the things that will happen is people leaving the cities. The second is that these city dweller's will immediately start decimating the local countryside. I doubt that they will leave much left for others.

Yes, roving gangs would be an issue, I don't have a bugout location either. The problem with bugging out is if you don't have your own location the locals will not be happy to see you in their hills...

I've recently started paying attention to structures around where I live, and work, or where I might happen to be when something would happen. Structures, that may have the integrity to survive any degree of blast, or would be sealed enough. I haven't actually gone, and checked them up close, just visually, but from what I've seen thus far I'm doomed.

I don't know i'd particularly like to survive the end ... just as long as i'm not the first to go. I want see/experience at least hlf of it. A painful death would be worth it as long I can get a couple good strikes in of my own.

I voted yes but missing a limb. I can see this happening... I look at the apocalypse like this; 1. You die 2. You survive and get to laugh humanity in the face then die.
Win win!!
